Active Therapy, also known as Activity-Based Therapy, combines traditional talk therapy with a hands-on activity of your choice.
Discussing emotions while engaging in an activity is not a new concept—it has been a part of human connection for centuries. This approach may be one reason why there are so many different interpretations today. With each new and improved therapy addressing different needs for different individuals or groups.
At Omnetherapy, we have returned to the basics to understand the reason this approach has been so effective. Inspired by this understanding, we have developed not only a new therapeutic method but an entirely new framework we call Active Therapy. Creating this framework allows us flexibility and provides a solid foundation to build upon the future of therapy. With its almost limitless potential, Omnetherapy is pushing the boundaries to provide a therapeutic option for everyone.
Active Therapy focuses on engaging the part of your brain that can criticise everything you do, gatekeep your emotions and censor your true thoughts and feelings. By keeping this part busy with a safe activity, the therapist can access your deeper, unedited thoughts and emotions often found in your subconscious mind.
The Active Therapy framework acts like a flexible therapy template. By creating a template rather than a new therapy type, Omnetherapy offers extensive flexibility, and—most importantly—accessibility. This means that, unlike the current alternatives, when you choose Omnetherapy, every session you have is not limited to just one style of therapy.
If it’s not working for you, you don't have to stop or find a new therapist—we can change for you!
If your therapy has ever involved more than just sitting and talking, you’ve already begun your journey into Active Therapy. Whether you’ve engaged your hands, body, or surroundings, you may have been practising for Active Therapy without even knowing—and that means you’re already part of our supportive and growing Active Therapy community.
Walk and Talk might sound familiar—and at Omnetherapy, we use it to help make your therapy experience feel more natural and connected.
If sitting still in a room isn’t your thing, a relaxed walk while chatting might feel a whole lot easier.
Body Doubling is used to describe a technique where one person (the "body double") is present (either in person or online) while another person works on a task.
It can help those who struggle to find motivation, start or stay focused on a task, or with executive functioning.
With Omnetherapy, you could finally complete those boring, outstanding tasks, such as housework, while working on your mental health.
Omnetherapy takes the pressure off with calm, non-competitive games.
No pressure, no judgment—just a safe space where you can relax and open up when you're ready.
Give yourself permission to game that even your inner critic can’t argue with!
Sometimes, it’s your plants that get you through the tough days.
Harness the ongoing and everlasting support of the natural world—a quiet place where opening up feels a little easier.
Project and Construction activities are our broadest option.
Draw an animation using your tablet, do some colouring, construct a model car/boat, build a chair, create something using crafts, repair a broken bike chain, paint a canvas, the list only ends with your imagination.
What’s unique about Active Therapy is that the activity isn’t one-size-fits-all. In fact, that’s the point. It can be almost anything—painting, walking, playing a game, organising, or even building something. There’s no strict category or fixed list, because it’s designed to fit you, your interests, and what helps you feel most comfortable.
